I acquired this radio from the original owner's daughter. The card is taped inside the back door. I didn't want to disturb anything as the card adds a nice piece of history about this radio. The card is dated 12/15/51.
This radio is extremely clean and in great original condition. All complete including the owners manuals, different operation books, and schematic. It is extremely clean and unmolested.
A short while ago I had the chassis restored and tuned up. Not a complete rebuild but all the tubes tested, the chassis and switches cleaned, major components replaced, and a new power cord. Chassis is extremely clean and the radio plays great.Radio is working on all bands, all switches and knobs work as they should. All knobs, buttons, and switches are original. Still has original spare tube holder on back door. The case on this radio is as nice as any you would find. I suppose it could be cleaned or detailed a bit, but it's very nice as is. The leatherette cover is all original and very tight. The telescoping antenna is excellent, and the case still has the arrow pointing to the lock position for collapsing the telescoping antenna (usually not there). This is a great find if you are looking for an excellent original early Zenith Trans-Oceanic H500. This is one of the first models of the so called. Models introduced in May 1951. Later models used a single 1/4. The dial is nice and works good, and the plastic cover is very clean, no cracks. Has the original "Wave-Magnet" antenna in the lid.
Some minor fading around where the Wave-Magnet mounts in the cover. Doesn't show in the photos. When the Wave-Magnet antenna is removed. The Wave-Magnet antenna includes all the original cables and mounting suction cups. I have provided many photos.
The photos are part of the description, should represent the condition and tell the story but please ask any questions. The package will be relatively heavy. The item "1951 ZENITH H500 Trans-Oceanic Shortwave Tube Radio Near Mint, Clean Works Good" is in sale since Wednesday, August 7, 2019.
