The 5S127 is highly collectible and sought after for its famous large reflective black multi-colored dial, for the Lightning Bolt "Z" pointer, the factory original wooden Z etched knobs, the intricate wood latticed grill, and the carved art deco design cues which make this BIG Tombstone stand out and command your attention. At 19 inches tall and 14 inches wide it has quite a presence. Theres no doubt this radio broadcast such notable 1937 historical events as the horrific Hindenburg disaster, the disappearance of Amelia Earhart, and the growing winds of war overseas with Japans attack on China and non aggression pact with the Nazis! It was certainly the centerpiece and focal point of an American Familys home in the late 1930s and 1940s. This is a superb example of the American Art Deco era for the late 1930s.
This seldom seen tube radio model 5S127. It is one of the most distinctive looking radios produced by Zenith. Please note the bookmatched veneers on the top that waterfall onto the front of the cabinet. The designer created a very elegant wood cabinet, with heavy ribbed and rounded edges. This most distinctive design resulted in Zenith famous line up for 1937.
This radio has been electronically restored and picks up many stations across the dial. The radio has very nice reception with no hum. After warming up, this 82 year old radio produces excellent volume and good sound from the front mounted speaker. A new power cord was installed for safety.The radio has the original Zenith wood knobs. The walnut veneered cabinet is beautifully restored with a flawless lacquer finish and trimmed tones. The grille cloth is a reproduction of the original pattern. Every detail was reproduced to keep the original look.
