T his Zenith is a beauty - it is becoming more and more uncommon to find this classic Zenith's in this good condition - and for them to be electronically restored and near museum quality is even less common. These models are highly collectible because they were some of the last Zeniths to be made prior to WWII when radio makers began to ramp up for war production. It is also sought after because it was designed by the famed industrial designer Robert Budlong, known for his pre-war portable Zenith radios and virtually the entire line for Zenith during that era.

As you can hear, the radio performs beautifully and the Bakelite finish is nearly flawless, as close to museum quality as you can get. It has the original dial lens, dial face, knobs, and even the back cover - which is very rare to have intact. An electronic restoration was done restoring the radio to original factory specs. All tubes were checked and any weak ones replaced with new old stock (NOS). Radio filter capacitors were replaced and resistors were replaced as needed, internal components found to be in poor condition were replaced, the chassis was cleaned, the controls were cleaned and lubricated to ensure proper operation.
The radio was aligned, and then was thoroughly bench tested. There is no doubt this very Zenith radio certainly tuned into important wartime broadcasts. It is interesting to think that this very radio likely broadcast important events such as President Roosevelt's famous speech after the Japanese bombed Pearl Harbor! Yesterday, December 7, 1941-a date which will live in infamy-the United States of America was suddenly and deliberately attacked by naval and air forces of the Empire of Japan.
These radios were reasonably priced at the time and functioned very well, giving Zenith a competitive edge against the competition - people had to make do with their pre-war radios as radio production did not begin again until 1946. And here is it being offered with. The Dial light does a great job of lighting up the beautiful dial scale. The dial needle moves in sync with the tuning knob as designed and it is in good condition as is the dial scale, there is no hum. This Zenith is truly a functional piece of art!
Take advantage of this opportunity to own this beautiful classic from Zenith! This Zenith is a great o. Pportunity for a collector to have a true classic in their collection!
