The two toned Walnut cabinet is quite breathtaking. Solid and well built, as can be expected from superior Zenith craftsmanship. The front and top feature an American walnut with dark walnut sides. A large Art Deco grill not only looks great but allows for optimal sound from the large speaker.
It all comes together magnificently when powered up and the monstrous black dial comes to life with a warm glow. You'll be the envy of all with this masterpiece proudly displayed in any room in the home or office you choose to display it in. If Zenith black dials are your thing.. It doesn't get any better or bigger than this.Powered by two dial lamps, it lights nice and bright and features a black background with ivory numbers and letters. There are smaller dials in each corner for voice, music, and high fidelity tone control, band switch, volume control, and selectivity control. Many foreign country and city names outline the dial for shortwave reference. All numbers and letters are legible and show very little signs of wear. This set features, what was advertised as, a lightning station finder and split second re-locator. It is a very cool feature as the tuning knob is weighted and spins with ease. The veneer tuning and sleek red split second re-locator allows for pinpoint accuracy. All five wood knobs are in perfect shape and control the following: tone control, selectivity control, on/off & volume, tuning, and band switch.
The 1930's style grill cloth is a fine reproduction featuring a whiskey gold color with an Art Deco geometric design. All tubes in the 6 tube chassis were tested with any weak tubes being replaced. All caps, filters, and resistors were checked and replaced as needed. All brittle or bare wiring was replaced or re-insulated.
The chassis has been cleaned, lubed, and re-aligned for optimal performance. The Cabinet's Finish & Restoration Process.
Our Radio cabinets undergo a vigorous restoration process. Our goal is to maintain the natural beauty of the wood and grain, while providing a deep luster and shine. We achieve this by removing all the old and worn lacquers and stains. We then sand the cabinet with fine grit pads down to the original bare wood.
Nicks, chips, and blemishes are filled and/or blended. Any loose veneer is re-secured. We make sure any filler applied or repairs made are blended nicely and do not detract from the beauty of the set unless otherwise noted.
New stains and sealers are applied by hand. We continue by using many coats of Mohawk brand lacquers and toners applied in the same manner as when the radio was originally finished in the factory. We use a nitrocellulose piano lacquer which is applied through a professional HVLP turbine spray system in a climate controlled room. Nitrocellulose lacquer is very thin. We also apply very thin coats. This allows the lacquer to seep into the grain and not cover it up. A fine grit wet sanding follows every third coat along with a polishing process and ending with an Oz glaze rub. Many hours of work are put into the radios, but as you can see, the final outcome is a beautiful, natural looking cabinet with gorgeous luster& shine. Our radios are a great piece of history that come to you ready to proudly display, as well as listen to, in any room of the home or office. 16 1/2"W x 22 1/4"H x 11 1/2D.
