In 1939 before World War II, Zenith radio was the envy of most radio manufacturers. Their designs and quality of the highly crafted cabinets and electronics were difficult to compete with by others. This tombstone is no exception with the art deco streamlined design, the racetrack escutcheon and bright gold dial. It is a model #5S-320.
Here is another terrific radio from the All American Zenith Radio Corp. These sets are sure hard to find and this one is very distinctive in its great looks. This radio is another reason for the American collector's love of all things Zenith! This set is a great playing radio. Note the decals indicating which band the radio is switched towards. Please look at all of the photos, as the racetrack style dial and push button presets, set the radio apart from most others. This is a scarce model and highly coveted by collectors!
This Zenith radio sports the popular gold racetrack dial and uses the same chassis as the highly collectable 5-S-319 (I have one of this model listed also). The chassis was removed and thoroughly cleaned and all the controls were cleaned and lubricated for smooth and proper operation. All the tubes and other components were tested and any out of tolerance parts were replaced. New dial lamps were installed as well as a new polarized AC power cord for safety. The cabinet is solid, it has been professionally refinished and is a gorgeous mid century vintage vacuum tube radio. The radio has Broadcast and Short Wave. The controls functions left to right are: On/Off/Volume, Tone, Tuning, Band Switch. This is a good looking and sounding Zenith and has a nice factory original brass bezel over the dial and 5 station preset buttons. All knobs are factory original. Radio measures approximately 15-3/4"W x 9"H x 7-3/4D.
