Mid Century Modern radio, powered by 6 tubes, and with a very capable 4 inch speaker in a compact case. This radio sounds spectacular for its size I was floored when I first heard it. Nice tone, no tinny sound as you will see from the specifications I listed below and hear from the video demo Zenith really put a lot of effort into this radio. You can tune a stations practically with every turn of the dial. This radio is completely intact, and rarely found in this nice condition cosmetically.

The D720-C has to rare color called. There is another version, more common - called Champaign which was also available at the time. Zenith marketed this radio as the MAJOR as it did some of its prior FM only sets. Zenith only made a few FM only sets during its decades in existence, starting with the 7H918 model. It plays better than vintage radios I have with speakers twice its size. Here is what Zenith stated in their Dealer Brochures about the Zenith Major from 1960. As for the Electronics - This radio sounds great with plenty of volume and no hum. There is no slippage in the tuning knob, and the volume control is clean. The exterior has been lightly cleaned with a plastic polish. This is the original factory paint and looks very good as a 55 year old radio, there are some minor imperfections and blemishes here and there, most notably on the top and the side - but I could not find anything significant.

The metallic surround bezel looks pristine! The knobs are in good shape, there are no cracks and it is very solid and structurally sound.

The original back is in great shape and very unique in that it has a streamlined back. And it has all its original labels. Zenith and FM radio in the US. Zenith was a pioneer of early FM radio and was able to move into FM only sets with ease.

There were only a few FM-only sets produced in the U. (Zenith only made 8 over their decades in existence). In the late 1950's, FM began to appeal to the Hi-Fi crowd. Early audiophiles eschewed table radios for tuners, receivers, and other "component" systems. Zenith only made a few FM Only models included the following: Model 7H918 [1949].
