For your consideration is this stunning 1941 deco pre wwii zenith black "boomerang" dial radio. It is a six tube ac/dc superhet tuning the standard broadcast band, 540 khz to 1820 khz and a short wave band, 8.75 mhz to 12.2 mhz.

Radio looks awesome and is in great working condition. The model number of this gorgeous looking radio is 6d644 and was produced in 1941 for the fall and spring of 1. Specially in this nice condition. The cabinet is made of walnut and is a reddish brown in color. This cabinet is unique in design with it's deco styling and it's striking "boomerang" black dial. The zenith "lighting" logo is located just above the dial. The cabinet had been recently re-sprayed and then top coated with clear lacquer. It still retains it's original look and the shine looks spectacular. This radio is extremely nice and for a radio that is 73 yrs old, it looks...

I have taken many pictures so you may get a good look at this wonderful looking and working radio. The electronics were upgraded with all the old filter caps being replaced with a modern tubular can electrolytic. All the old wax paper coupling and by-pass capacitors were replaced with new high quality "orange drop" capacitors. Then, a blue x1/y2 ceramic safety capacitor was also installed across the line.

All the resistors were checked and any out of tolerance were replaced. A new polarized power cord was installed. The speaker is in great condition, no holes, tears or cuts. There was a small hole in the original grill cloth that was repaired, see photo #9. He audio is pleasant and loud without hum.

Both dial strings were broken so two were installed. All tubes were tested and all now test "good". And, finally the radio was aligned on both bands according the zenith's specifications. This radio has been restored to good working condition. This radio has a built-in loop antenna on a frame, so t.

A two position tone slide switch is located on the rear, in the middle of the loop antenna to add bass or treble to the speaker sound. Connecting a long outside wire antenna to the radio will enhanced short wave reception. The link on the rear loop antenna should be opened and the outside antenna wire connected to the terminal lug at the middle bottom below the loop antenna. With just a short wire, many sw stations were heard between 9.25 and 10 mhz during early morning hours. The "boomerang" shaped plastic dial scale lens cover is the original. It was cloudy, but after polishing with novus it looks fine. There is a small 1/4 crack on the right edge, not visible from the front, but only when looking at the right edge. The very distinct looking black dial scale and dial pointer are both very good looking and in working condition. Also replaced were two new #47 dial lamps, see photo #4. The two ivory colored "z" bullet nose control knobs were on this radio originally, where cleaned and are in fantastic looking and working condition. The backboard was missing and might have been removed for additional cooling sometime in the past. The chassis is in great shape with two-controls, the on/off volume switch on the left and the tuning control on the right. The switch was chemically cleaned and, then, both controls were lubricated and are in great working condition.

This is a 73 year old vintage radio and must be handled and cared for carefully. So where you position this radio in your home can make a difference in your enjoyment. This zenith 6d644 radio would make an excellent addition to your radio collection or as a stand alone radio.
