For sale today is a gorgeous 1938 Zenith 9S262 shutter dial (robot dial) console radio. No excuses or apologies on this one; it's a beautiful radio, fully restored and in impressive condition. Here's a bit about the set. This radio retains its original finish and apart from a few marks here and there, it is in beautiful condition.

There are no veneer problems, no watermarks or stains on the top, and no distracting blemishes; just minor wear consistent with its 78 years on the planet. The grill cloth is a correct replacement. The knobs are all in excellent condition, match for tone and are original to the set.

A gorgeous cloth-covered cord with bakelite plug has been added. The electronics have been fully restored and updated. Replacement of all electrolytic capacitors. Replacement of all paper/wax capacitors.

Replacement of several mica caps as needed. Replacement of all resistors more than 10 percent out of spec. All were replaced with higher wattage resistors for a good margin of safety.

All tubes tested and are good. The set comes with a NOS (new old stock) 6E5 eye tube.

The 6T5 that came with this set is somewhat weak and dimmer than the 6E5, but works. The 6E5 is very bright and responsive. The radio has been fully aligned and gets excellent reception on all three bands. A finned resistor has been added to the AC line to bring the incoming voltage down to about 110VAC, which is what this radio was made to run on. The 122VAC or so found in today's outlets is too high for these old Zenith transformers.

With the resistor in the AC line, the transformer will stay cool and happy, as it should. The set has new rubber belts made for this set by Adams Manufacturing. The shutter dial works freely and smoothly, as it should, and the motor also works as it should. Paint on the shutter dial assembly is good with no crazing and is rust free. The speaker is in good condition as is the "beehive" acoustic adapter.

The set has its original brass speaker pins and spring-loaded chassis bolts. The adapter moves in and out as it should. All moving parts have been lubricated and cleaned. Wiring was replaced as needed, and assorted odds and ends were done to bring the set up to optimal operating shape. Using a good long wire antenna, this radio picks up a ton of stations and really performs on Shortwave. It's a beautiful set. The tone control works as it should and the radio booms with its 12 speaker. If you are looking for a very good 262, this is it.

Please check my feedback to see what buyers think of my radios and packing job. It's a beautiful, iconic set and looks great. Just about as nice a 262 you could hope to find. See video of the set in action.
