On the top right of the page if you would like to see my new vintage radio listings on your homepage! Zenith marketed this Art Deco radio as the Consoltone but collectors like to refer to it affectionately as the Racetrack for its unique artful racetrack style shape. Like a Roman inspired Hippodrome.

Because it has the not often found. Color and gold center plate. Most of these are Brown Bakelite, with Ivory coming in a close second in terms of availability.

It was also available in grey and green (another uncommon color). However the Black Bakelite versions are quite uncommon.

The center plates can be silver or gold tone. This model is also famous because it has a lighted Z logo indicator light at the center which makes the Z light up and glow. A nice touch in a dark room and something Zenith did to differentiate itself in the saturated radio market of post. World war 2 America in 1951.

These models are not often found electronically serviced this radio sounds great with very good reception and selectivity! Its in near mint condition and has an all original cabinet. With the exception of the white lettering in the Zenith name. Which was professionally touched up as it had faded over the years. No cracks or chips and has been polished to a mirror shine.

The centerplate it near perfect these are usually faded and pitted. Please look at the video demo below to hear the radio playing, then scroll down to read more details on what makes this radio so exceptional! As you can hear, this radio sounds as good as it looks.

The knobs work as designed with no slipping and there is no hum. As with any radio this old, there are going to be some minor blemishes and imperfections on the top, sides, back, bottom, and front but nothing that detracts from the overall look of the radio. This Zenith has been polished to a mirror shine as you see. This radio has a recent trip to the technician where all tubes were checked and any weak ones replaced with New Old Stock tubes (NOS), capacitors were checked and replaced as needed, the controls were cleaned and lubricated, the dial light is was replaced, the lettering on the center Zenith moniker faceplate were re-stenciled, and it was polished to a mirror shine. At least two hours of testing to ensure all is well.

This 5 Tube radio sounds great with clear and rich sounds coming from its. Perfect as a functional display piece that will go with any décor. It would also make a unique gift.

You will love listening to it for many years to come. Made in the USA by Zenith, Chicago, IL.

It is a wonderful companion piece to go with your new Radio and ready for framing! It is a beautiful representation of classic art deco post- WWII styling but mixed with an out of the box spin. It is made of Black Bakelite - rare. It has a right front semicircular dial. There are 2 knobs, the left is for on/off/volume, and the right is for tuning.

As stated, this particular model has an indicator light behind the Z logo on the top front of the radio which makes the Z glow! Simply a Beautiful example of a 1951 Zenith Consoltone Race Track. Type: Radio - or past WW2 tuner.

5 Valves / Tubes: 12BE6 12BA6 12AT6 50C5 or 50L6GT 35W4. Principle: Super-Heterodyne ZF/IF 455 kHz; 2 AF stage(s).

Wave bands: Broadcast only (MW). Power type and voltage: AC/DC-set / 117 Volt. Loudspeaker: Permanent Magnet Dynamic 4 inch. The design of this radio has smaller openings in the front which tends to. Front load the speaker so the highs are not as prevalent, which makes the midrange more prominent.

This gives this radio a more. "Mellow" sound than one would expect for its size and the fact it was built in 1951.

The cabinet is in great condition, with no nicks, no cracks, it is very solid. The back cover is present and in good condition. There is only very minor wear, some minor surface blemishes most of which can only can be seen in direct sunlight and at the certain angles.

The oval dial plate is very nice. Dimensions are 13.75 in length X 7" high X 7" in depth. I use plenty of Bubble Wrap, extra padding and double box or use extra box support material.

It will be marked Fragile & This side up on the box to make sure it is handled carefully. The radio is fully insured. A small sampling of my feedback.

Best packaging ever for a vintage radio - I really appreciate it. Fantastic radio as advertised, careful and thoughtful packaging.
