Here is the Zenith model 6D629 Consol-Tone wood radio from 1942 with its boomerang black dial. In excellent working condition after an extensive restoration. The wood cabinet was a challenge when received making this a fine subject for a striking renewal.
The cabinet was cleaned, damaged veneer on the right side replaced, and the black lacquer detailing applied followed by multiple coats of clear lacquer resulting in the stunning radio now shown. The electronics have been revitalized with all paper and electrolytic capacitors replaced with modern units, its six tubes. Rarely seen RF stage for greater range tested and replaced if performing below specs, controls cleaned and lubricated, and the set aligned. The black dial face is illuminated with two new dial lights.
The plastic dial cover is new, an excellent product delivered by an excellent source, John Palmquist. The original plastic knobs for this model, now in black, are included but as often with this radio, these were deformed by years of heat. The grill cloth is modern and looks great.
Yes, the back is missing but then the tubes do run cooler. This radio is a one-of-a-kind beauty.
Don't let it slip away to that other guy.. The radio measures about 13.5" W x 9" H x 7 D and weighs about 10 lbs. Please check my feedback for the remarks from my many valued customers. Please ask if you have questions and certainly check out the other items I have listed!
