Zenith Bakelite 6D015Z AM Art Deco Radio (1946) COMPLETELY RESTORED

This very stylish radio was made just after WWII ended and has lots of Art Deco inspired touches. The concentric grill including the dial really makes this a standout radio of its day. With a nice brass center plate and red indicator light, it has a pleasing balanced look. The dark walnut Bakelite cabinet is in excellent condition, with no scratches, cracks or dings. The black fold down handle is also in excellent condition.

With six tubes and an internal antenna, it has good reception, selectivity and sound. There is an antenna lead to attach a longer wire if needed for your locale. As with all of the radios I restore, it has been gone over with the utmost detail.

The radio was disassembled and cleaned. The cabinet was polished to a very high luster, probably just like new! The brass center piece was polished and given three coats of clear lacquer to protect the finish.

The knobs are original and in excellent condition. The dial face graphics are crisp and well defined and the original dial cover was polished. The grill cloth and power cord were replaced. Electronically, the chassis was restored, cleaned and serviced, with all paper/wax and electrolytic capacitors replaced with new ones.

Tubes and resistors were tested and replaced as needed. All controls and contacts were detail cleaned and lubricated. Wiring and other components were replaced as needed. The radio was aligned, peaked and tuned for optimal reception and quality of sound using the internal antenna.

At 73 years old, this radio again looks and plays like new. It will continue to provide many more years of reliable enjoyment if well cared for. Smaller in size, it will fit just about anywhere and will certainly enhance wherever it is displayed. Note: Tube radios consist of a variety of vacuum tubes, capacitors, resistors and other electronic components. This radio has been disassembled, cleaned, and components tested. All non-functioning or suspect components were replaced. Vacuum tubes are similar to light bulbs in that an interior filament heats up inside the vacuum tube.

When the filament burns out, the tube will need to be replaced. The tubes in this radio are in good working order. The longevity of the tube and its filaments is related to the length of time the radio is operated and the frequency of turning the radio power on and off.
