ZENITH TRANS-OCEANIC A600 (1958) REFURBISHED WITH POW-R-POD INSTALLED
Exceptionally clean example of the late 1950's classic Zenith Trans-Oceanic portable shortwave radio. Next to last model in the fabled Trans-Oceanic line, A600 introduced the highly refined 6A40 chassis known for it's low noise floor and great sensitivity. This is the chassis that would continue to power the B600 from 1959 to 1962 when the tube type ZTO line was retired. This one is SN 4937882, is in exceptional condition, and has been completely refurbished electronically and cosmetically. I refurbished this set in July of 2011 for Sthephen Kuhn of Neon Radio and just recently came across it at his estate sale. We lost Steve in May of this year, and will be missed by his many friends and by the radio hobby as well. This radio features the well known Pow-R-Pod product I developed and marketed for several years ahead of Filt-R-Pak and it plays exceptionally well across all bands with great sensitivity, beautiful tone and lots of volume. The telescopic antenna is straight, extends fully, and latches down and pops up as it should.
The Wavemagnet retains its suction cups and is free of defects. The Logs & Charts are clean and unmarked and the power cord is a new high flex type that operates silky smooth. Obviously, this set has been very well cared for.
