THIS RADIO WAS REFURBISHED DURING AUGUST, 2015 - CAMERA DATE IS INCORRECT Beautiful and highly collectible Zenith Trans-Oceanic G500 (1950) fully restored cosmetically and electronically. This is the fabled short run transition modelning the technology gap between the old Locktal tube based 8G005Y of the late 1040's and the modernized H500 introduced in 1951.

An unexpected hit with the public, G500 enjoyed immense popularity in its single year of production. Often referred to as the jewel of the ZTO fleet, G500 featured beautiful lines and a distinctive Wavemagnet with badge proclaiming'The Royalty of Radio'.

This would turn out to be the only ZTO to employ that handsome badge or the boastful (yet deserved)'royalty proclamation' - and that fact alone makes it an absolutely necessary part of any serious ZTO collection. Stunning on display and an impressive performer to boot, the G500 employed design elements from both past and future models. Retaining the Deco look of the earlier period with generous use of high contrast black and brass, it at the same time employed a compact new chassis with 5 new miniature tubes in place of the old 8 Locktals, and it gave up nothing in sound or performance. This particular example is Serial Number 264138 and is in very nice shape. The cabinet was routinely cleaned and re-dyed for deep, even color and the plastic trim was polished, as were the brass fixtures.

Electronically, the chassis has been completely re-capped and a Filt-R-Pak+ installed so that the power supply has been modernized and the selenium rectifier has been replaced with a modern diode. The aging dial cords were replaced to assure longevity and the telescopic antenna clip is a reproduction. All tubes, including the 1L6 converter were tested and verified strong, and all switches and controls, including the band switch tower have been cleaned and lubricated. It has been IF/RF aligned to factory specifications to assure peak sensitivity and accurate dial readout. This is a solid performer on all bands with great sensitivity, beautiful tone, and lots of volume.
